Yoga, business & photography

Okay… let me guess what you’re thinking right now.

Deep down, you know it’s important to build an online presence.

You see peers in the yoga industry making bank because they’re grown their own ‘personal brand’.

And quite frankly – you might be so daunted and overwhelmed by where to start that you’re barely moving forward at all.

I get it.

Between TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, blogging, ads, email marketing, Facebook groups… where on earth will you find the time to do your actual job?

And as for your website – isn’t everyone on social media anyway? Isn’t it expensive? Don’t you need a professional designer or your own design skills?

I’ve got good news for you.

Lucky for all of us, there are platforms out there like Showit which can take away a lot of the challenge of creating a website.

Showit is a tool that makes creating a website EASY – whether you’re a designer or total tech newbie. You don’t need to know how to code, you just “drag and drop” the way you want them.

And no – it’s not going to send you broke.

There are plenty of affordable options out there – including Showit.

What does that mean for you?

Okay – building a website isn’t nearly as hard or expensive as you thought. Great news.

So, why should yoga teachers have a website, anyway?

Here’s the good news: the yoga industry is worth over $88 billion worldwide and expected to reach $215 billion by 2025 (source) – that’s HUGE growth for studios – not to mention retreats, mats, clothing, online education and other products. That’s a pie you’re going to want a piece of.

As for the bad news: you’re not the only one who wants a piece of that pie. 67% of yoga teachers teach less than 10 hours per week (source) – whether that be by choice or simply because the industry is extremely saturated, 10 hours/week seriously limits your income potential if you’re solely relying on classes.

1: Get more studio classes

Think of your website as your digital CV: it shares your personality, experience and knowledge. It allows potential employers to see who you are and how you would benefit their studio.

Not only that, it will boost your credibility, professionalism, and show that you’re invested in your career as a yoga teacher.

2: Sell your own retreats and workshops

Imagine you sell a 2-hour workshop to 25 students for $40 each ($1,000 income minus expenses). Or a retreat to 15 students for $1,000 each! ($15,000 income minus expenses).

Your website provides the space for you to promote, outline, sell and receive payments for any events you host independently of your studios.

3: Have your own ‘brand’

Your website supports you in building your own brand and connecting more deeply with your students. Why is this important? No matter where you go, which studios you teach at (or stop teaching at), which events you host or which products you offer – you’ve provided an easy way for your students to connect directly with you.

You also have the opportunity to share your personality, story and values with your students – strengthening your bond with them even more deeply.

4: Make money while you sleep

Whether it’s with an eBook, online meditation or yoga classes, physical products or even affiliate links – your website can make money for you without you lifting a finger. Just set up your digital products and let the checkout do the rest of the work.

5: Adapt quickly to global change

Remember covid? Of course we do. Studios shut down, teachers lost all their classes and income dried up significantly (if not completely). It was incredibly challenging to say the lease.

There’s something very powerful in the peace of mind of having a space where you can continue to offer services in different formats (eg: online classes). Even if you’re not offering anything right away, having the website ready to add to is so valuable.

Although covid was hopefully a once in a lifetime experience, the changes that it has spurred on are undeniable. The world is moving more and more digitally at a more rapid pace than ever before – and it pays to be online and ready to adapt.

6: Have more freedom

From not relying on anyone else (eg: studios) for work to being able to travel freely, being online opens up more opportunities than you could possibly imagine. Not only that – your work can reach a global audience – you are no longer limited to your local borders.

How to bring it all together.

So – you’ve learnt that you can build freedom, credibility, income and community on your website. You see the value and the payoff. You understand that it can be easier and more affordable than you imagined – now what?

First, find a website builder

I recommend Showit – it’s easy to use (drag and drop with no coding) and super affordable.
